A Clinicopathological Analysis of the Breat Masses


Abstract
The clinical obsevation was made in 469 cases of breast mass, proven histologically and treated surgically from January 1985 to January 1991 at Department of Surgery, college of medicine, Hallym University.
1) Among the prevalence of 469 breast masses, benign breast mass was noted in 85%, malignant breast mass in 14.9%. Among the benign breast mass, fibroadenoma was most common lesion(43.9%), follwed by fibrocystic disease(20.7%), inflammatory
lesio98.1%)
and phylloides tumor(2.3%).
2) The most prevalent age group in breast masses were third decades(40.3%), at the left side in 181 cases (50.4%) and bilateral in 8 cases(2.2%).
The most frequent site of masses were upper outer quadrant(51.3%0.
4) The most common inital symptom was painless mass(80.5%0 within 6 month.
5) Duration of illness was developed in 328(72.2%) cases within 6 month.
6) The most common group of size of breast mass was under 2 cm in 235 cases(52.6%).
7) The accuracy of clinical dignosis in malignancy was 81.5%.
8) Under the TNM classification, the most frequent stage was stage II(54.4%), followed by Stage III(33.8%) and Stge IV (4.4%).
9) The most common pathologic finding of breast cancer was invasive ductal carcinoma(78.6%).
10) The post operative complicaion was obseved in II cases(hematoma; 3.3%, seroma; 2.6%, wound infection; 0.6%)
